Project selection: our method and criteria

How Gamevestor reviews games before opening them to investment

Before a project reaches investors, it is analysed by Gamevestor and challenged by a panel of video game industry experts.

We select the games most likely to be profitable for investors, not the ones we happen to like. So we look for three things: a strong creative proposition, a credible team and an identifiable market potential.

The selection process

Every project goes through a staged review before it is listed on Gamevestor.

< 2%

of the projects we receive are selected

Out of 100 applications received

  • 80 rejected
  • 18 reviewed
  • 2 selected
  1. 1. Initial application

The studio presents its game, its team, its stage of development and its funding needs.

  2. 2. Preliminary review

Gamevestor assesses how well the project fits the platform: genre, scope, maturity, ambition and campaign potential.

  3. 3. Full application

Shortlisted projects are examined in more depth: budget, schedule, marketing, financial projections, team and milestones.

  4. 4. Playable demo

The game is tested from a demo or a playable build.

  5. 5. Expert panel review

The project is challenged on its strengths, its risks and its commercial potential.

  6. 6. Campaign structuring

If the project is approved, Gamevestor structures the investor information, the campaign terms and the funding milestones.

The criteria we assess

Every project is assessed against a set of complementary criteria.

Market potential

Target audience, genre, positioning, comparable titles, market dynamics.

02

03

04

Scope, schedule, milestones, execution risks.

05

Studio credibility

Team experience, track record, complementary profiles, the financial soundness of the company and its ability to see the project through.

06

Creative originality

Game identity, differentiation, memorability, clarity of the proposition.

Selection does not remove risk

Investing in a video game remains risky. Our selection does not guarantee that a project will succeed commercially.

It aims to reduce the avoidable ones: projects that are too early, inconsistent budgets, fragile production plans, no clear market, or a lack of credibility in execution.

Our role is to filter, challenge and structure information so that investors can make a better-informed decision.
